Bringing Life to the Heart of Peace with IWPG

For the sixth time, the International Women’s Peace Group has organised the International Loving Peace Art Competition, where ten of our learners will see their artworks in the final in South Korea.

The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) was inaugurated in 2013, with a mission to build an institution of peace through female solidarity. The IWPG advocates for the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW), which was proclaimed in South Korea and calls on countries to end war-like activities and bring peace to the world.

The International Loving Peace Art Competition is an IWPG initiative to make Article 10 of the DPCW become reality through promoting a culture of peace in action.

During Term 2, learners in the Middle and Senior Learning Communities used this year’s theme of Conveying a Heart of Peace to Friends Suffering from War to create artworks for the competition.

I think peace can change the world. I feel that peace can get you everywhere. This has changed my life... I feel proud of my artwork.

Casey

Learners had the opportunity to hear directly from IWPG before creating their own artworks, using a range of media including watercolour and pencil.

Learners have been enriched by the experience of this art competition. The volunteers from the IWPG gave them some insights into what their group is hoping to achieve and why peace is important in our world. I feel everyone was able to process the discussions and use this new understanding to create their own artwork.

Maryanne Fenech-Gatt (Visual Arts teacher)

Finalists were selected from each home group, with a winner selected to go to the next round of judging.

Congratulations to all of our finalists and good luck to our school winners as their peace artworks head to South Korea.

Congratulations to our school winners of the Loving Peace Art Competition!

The quality and diversity of artworks produced by our young people has been amazing. Being able to connect with IWPG in this way allows our whole community to see that peace is an important concept for all people everywhere. Through being people of peace, we are sharing in the mission we have been given by Christ to love one another. This mission is what our school is here for, ensuring we help to form lives of faith, hope and love in the light of Jesus Christ.
